21 Photos Focus Stacked: 5D Mk IV – EF 70-200mm f/2.8L II – Einstein Studio Light – 1/125, f/5.6, ISO 100 Last day of January with a big snowstorm on the way! They are saying we could get over a foot of snow with heavy blowing and drifting – I suspect the next few photos of the day will be weather related! However, today we revisit Focus Stacking. The last time I did this was on a lasagna in a […]
Canon G7X Mk II – 1/60, f/2.0, ISO 125 Tough picture day. Lots of opportunities with the grandkids but the little G7 struggled a bit in the low light as I’m not a big fan of it’s on camera flash. In any case, we went to Bru Burger for supper and to celebrate a couple birthdays where I took this pic! Canon 5D Mk IV – EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro – Einstein Studio Lights – 1/2 sec, f/8.0, ISO 100 […]
Canon 5D Mk IV – EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro – Einstein Studio Lights – 1/125, f/11, ISO 100 I took the camera and studio lights into the workshop today to run another test. I set up two Einsteins in Action mode to test their action stopping capabilities. I put a drill bit into the drill press and experimented with a block of wood and PVC pipe. In both pictures, the bit is turning at 1100 rpm! On the left side, […]
Canon 5D Mk IV, EF 24 – 70mm 2.8L II (70mm) – Einstein Studio Lights – 1/125, f/16, ISO 100 Well my new remote trigger came in the mail today! It’s a Vello Shutterboss 4.0 and it is sweet. What better way to try it out than practice taking a self portrait with some high key lighting. Note that I did not use a wide open aperture, but instead jacked up the left studio strobe to spread the light on […]
Canon 5D Mk IV – EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro – Einstein Studio Lights – 1/125, f/22, ISO 100 It was another day to practice with the studio lights. I have 3 lights on these dog toys. The left side was the primary key light with a 20 degree grid installed. The left side was barn doors but it was set a little closer to the models and more in front. I had a strip box over the top to add […]
Canon 5D Mk IV – 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM – MT-24 EX Macro Flash – 1/200, f/4, ISO 50 Well today was a very special birthday for my special girl! The Bundt on the left is snickerdoodle and the one on the right is lemon. Canon 5D Mk IV – 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM – 580 EX II Flash – 1/2000, f/4, ISO 50 This fella was perched all morning on the bird feeder so snapped some photos through the […]
Canon 5D Mk IV – 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM – MT-24 EX Macro Twin Light Flash – 1/125, f/11, ISO 100 Eye See You! Another macro day. This was a difficult shoot because my old remote is apparently not compatible with my 5D Mk IV; it only works 1/2 the time. As such, I had a difficult time focusing. I took this shot with my Macro Twin Light flash mounted on the 100mm Macro lens. You can see the two […]
Canon 5D Mk IV – MT-24 EX macro twin light flash – 1/60 sec, f/16, ISO 100 This was a short practice session with my 100mm Macro lens and the MT-24 EX macro twin light flash. This is the hinge on a set of 38 year old Air Force BCG’s (see full pic below). I was about 5 inches away from the hinge. Notice I put a coin down for reference. At first glance, you might think it’s a quarter, […]
Canon PowerShot G7 X mk II We went into Lafayette to do some shopping so I brought the camera along – you never know when a photo op will appear. On the way home, we pulled into the Tippecanoe Amphitheater. I was going to take a pic of the two log towers, but saw this little attempt at a snowman. Took the pic with the Amphitheater silhouetted in the background.
Canon 5D Mk IV – Einstein Lights in action mode – 1/125 sec, f/5.6 ISO 50 Today was a day to experiment. I have Paul C. Buff Einstein Studio lights. These lights have two modes, a Constant Color mode which I normally use, and an Action mode where the flash duration shortens from 1/588 seconds at full power to 1/13,500 seconds at minimum power for “incredible action freezing capability”. Up to now, I had not tried this but since Project […]
Canon G7 X Mk II Slow day today image-wise. I did receive my 86″ boom arm today. It’s a nice addition to my equipment portfolio. This will open up some nice possibilities with my Einstein lights. Anyway, Roxie and I had a quiet supper at the Lafayette Brewing Company. It was just after dusk when we walked out and I saw the lights on at the old Lafayette Theater and took this shot. Nothing fancy, but it made the photo […]
5D Mk IV – EF100mm f/2.8 Macro – Einstein Studio Lights – 1/125 sec, f/5.6, ISO 100 I realized I had to put up a few more images into the Smoke Screen gallery to match with the length of the audio track. I took these using two Einstein studio lights set to the action mode which captures subjects moving at higher speed, in this case, the smoke. I had lights on directly on each side – one was shooting somewhat […]
5D Mk IV – EF70-200mm f/2.8L – Einstein Studio Lights – 1/60 sec, f/5.6, ISO 100 Well it happened sooner than I thought, but we have a repeat photo subject, albeit with a twist. When we made the lasagne, it was 9lbs. So, we were looking at eating it for several days. Today made Day 3! We have about another 1.5 days of food left – not sure how much we’ll like it after we’re done… Anyway, here’s the twist: […]
5D Mk IV – EF70-200mm f/2.8L – Einstein Studio Lights – 1/125, f/5.6, ISO 100 With the colder weather, I find it harder to be creative while being confined primarily in the house. However, this is forcing me to look at everyday things with a new eye. I like light on black photography so I thought I try something with three of my hats. I also thought I’d occasionally change things up and post a runner-up image or images! I […]
5D Mk IV – EF 70-200mm f/2.8L – f/10, 1/60, ISO 100 – EX580 II flash Homemade lasagne – the bomb! We’ll be eating this for the next 3 or 4 days.
5D Mk IV – EF 70-200mm f/2.8L – f/32, 1 second, ISO 50 Hoosier Crossroads Wind farm outside our back yard. It was really cold out when I took this picture. To get the ‘fan blade effect’, I had to put the ISO very low and the f-stop very high. Plus, I had to wait until dusk so I could put the shutter speed low enough. EDIT: 2/21/2022 – I can improve this shot tenfold by purchasing neutral density filters.
Operation Paukenschlag (Drum Roll) began on January 13, 1942. This was the German Submarine force operating off the U.S. East Coast. In honor of the many men who lost their lives.
Our granddaughter’s favorite toys when she was 1 – 2 years old!
This fella was sitting and eating right on the other side of our dining room window about 3 feet away.
