5D Mk IV – 1/320, f/9, ISO 100

Today, I was going to work with an 8 pointed star filter, but I was going to do it by photographing a golf club against a black background. What happened is we had some freezing rain yesterday which coated the trees; today it was cold, but the sun was out in full force. I used the 100mm Macro lens but this was not a macro shot. I used that lens because that was the only one that the filter fit.

I took some shots and then went inside and photographed the golf club, my driver, with 3 strobes flashing. But I’ll be darned if I could get a star out of it. I like how the stars look in the trees, but in full transparency, this photo is cropped to be able to see the stars. You can see the full image below, and it’s hard to see the stars.

Obviously, I am going to have to do some research on this filter. I was expecting more ’pop’ from the filter – the stars to be more pronounced. This filter is about 10 years old, and I’ve rarely used it. It could be that I’m doing something wrong, or it could be a cheap filter. Like I said, I’ll do more research.
