DJI Mavic Mini – 1/240, f/2.8, ISO 100
Not entirely happy with this picture but given the circumstances, it will do as the Photo of the Day. I was hoping to get the drone up for a quick shot of the sky. We had a possibility of severe weather, particularly due east of us, hence why I thought a drone pic would be cool.
I got everything ready and went outside. It was very, very windy when I got the drone airborne. When I got to about 130 ft, all sorts of wind warnings were going off, and it started to rain. I snapped some quick pics on auto and brought it in to land right away. I was amazed that even 2 feet off the ground, I was having considerable difficulty controlling it. I went inside and waited for about an hour before I tried it again. The second time, I was able to get it up to 200 feet which is what made the photo. However, I still had considerable difficulty controlling the position of the drone – the wind was pushing it hard. Normally, I have full control over how I shoot a photo, but today, I had no choice but to use Auto, since I was more concerned with controlling the aircraft.
So, the Photo of the Day was a difficult shot, but for circumstances other than photgraphy. I made the picture black and white because I felt it better represented the mood I was trying to capture. I also added some slight graininess in post-processing to add to the ambience.
Love this shot! Love the detail in the clouds!
Thanks!
