5D Mk IV – EF 100mm Macro – MT-24EX Macro TwinLite – 1/125, f/11, ISO 100, Eval Meter

It was a busy day today with lots of photo opportunities, but we’ll focus on what we did. This was the first lawn mowing of the Spring. I started by combing the lawn for sticks and branches – there was a lot! One of the things I found was this very large, unusual wasp nest. It is actually the biggest wasp nest I’ve ever seen, and it is a two-story, double-decker nest! I believe it was in a tree and fell when the branch it was on broke off the tree. I used the 100mm Macro lens again to help do this nest justice. I had Roxie hold it to give perspective on the size.

I also took a picture of the same Magnolia flower that was trying to open two days ago. Today, that flower was in full bloom. The only difference in this picture and the one I took two days ago is I changed the aperture to f/6.3 in order to increase the depth of focus a bit. It got up to 70 degrees today, and 80 is predicted for Saturday. Looks like Spring is here!

Oh, I also got a new golf net today so I’m sure we can fit that into a Photo of the Day soon!
