5D Mk IV – EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro – MT-24 EX Macro TwinLite – 1/200, f/6.3, ISO 100, Eval Meter
As the day progressed, I really struggled with what the Photo of the Day was going to be. I went outside in the hopes of shooting something macro but it was windy, drizzly, and chilly – Spring is struggling to get here. I started with the Canon G7 X and was taking some macro shots. They looked good on the small screen of the G7, but on the computer, they weren’t as sharp as I’d like. One thing I’ve realized, shooting Macro handheld with a flash can be difficult.
Anyway, I went back inside, took out the 5D with the Macro lens and the TwinLite and went back outside. Weather hadn’t changed so I got – nothing… I went back inside and for some reason remembered an article I’d read a while back that shooting silverware was a thing. Really? I got out a plate and a fork, knife, and spoon, and took the shot. Wow, boring.
But then I thought, why not weird it up a bit? So I tossed the image into Photoshop and played with some filters and distortion brushes. I only did the tongs on the outer edges of the fork to add a sense of ‘what the heck’. The result is, possibly, my first piece of Surreal Art.
Very interesting!
