Here are just some thoughts regarding Project 365 and what I learned:

  1. This was a hard commitment to keep. It sounds easy, but finding something to take a picture of every day, processing it, and posting it to the website, generally took a minimum of one hour, and usually more. I went into this thinking every photo had to be unique, artsy, awesome, etc. I quickly gave that idea up. That would have consumed so much time, I would not have been able to do anything else. I will have a separate post on the Best Photos of 2022, and many of those pics were just spur of the moment shots. My point is that a lot of times, the best shots ‘just happen’.
  2. Speaking of hard, there were times when I would wake up and think, ‘ugh, what am I gonna take a picture of?’ That got really bad after I got back home from Florida in November. I guess you could say I was close to being burned out. If we had unlimited resources, and could go anywhere at any time, this project would be very easy. However, the reality was that most pictures were taken at, or near, home so finding suitable subject matter to photograph became the biggest challenge day after day.
  3. I used two computers for about 3/4 of this project. That was a mistake. I should have used the iMac as the primary and used the laptop when traveling and on vacation. Moving pictures back and forth all the time became confusing as to which computer had which pictures. I suspect, that is what happened to the March 16 source images for the panorama – they got lost.
  4. I only made small, low resolution copies of the PotD for this website; I did not make large copies which was a mistake. I had to go back on the iMac and physically create the large jpg’s. At times, this entailed ‘re-developing’ them because they were initially developed on the laptop, but for space purposes they were deleted after moving to the iMac. This issue has more with managing the Lightroom catalogue, but could have been alleviated by using a primary computer (see #3 above).
  5. There were several things I wanted to photograph but never got around to it. Roxie said I should use 2023 for a Project 52 – a photo of the week. I like that idea, and I could use this (and my free time in retirement) to get those missed shots. I’ll keep you posted on this.
  6. It was much easier taking photos on vacation, or visiting friends or family. See #2 above.
  7. I learned advanced focus stacking and advanced panorama merging. I’m very proficient in Lightroom.
  8. I still have to figure out the issue with not being able to access my site periodically from my home network. I am convinced this has to do with Comcast and not Hostgator. I have flushed the DNS and added DNS Servers, but it still happens. Yet, if I am on another network, or a personal hotspot, I have no problem. Weird, but it’s driving me crazy.
