Canon G7 X Mk II – 1/160, f/1.8, ISO 125, Spot Meter
Another wasp picture. I walked out back, unsure what the Photo of the Day would be. I happened to notice a wasp flying around that went behind the cable box attached to the house. I know last year Roxie removed a large wasp nest from that location, and a smaller one earlier this year when it was still cold out. I saw the wasp on a small nest and knew I had to try and get a pic.
This was a difficult shot. There was only a little more than an inch between the house and the cable box. Getting the lens of the G7 to focus in that small space was difficult. It was dark back there (there was no room to use flash) so I had to open the aperture all the way up, drop the shutter speed, and switch to spot metering. I wanted to keep the ISO as low as possible so it didn’t look too grainy. Oh, and I had the camera set to macro so I was only about 3 inches away from the wasp. You could tell he was starting to get agitated so I hurriedly snapped some pics.
The pic is far from perfect, but I think it provides some level of life from a wasp’s viewpoint.
Really cool shot!
