Canon G7 X Mk II – 1/200, f/4.5, ISO 125, Eval Meter
We did a lot today, but I knew from the start the Photo of the Day would be representative of the USS Arizona. The last time I was here was in 1985, and this is Roxie’s first time. This photo is called the Memorial Wall and lists all the names of the 1177 servicemen killed on the Arizona. The hard part of the photo was making sure it was clear of other people. I did it in black and white because in 1941, color was not common. Visiting the Arizona was a very humbling experience. Very somber – it is a war grave after all.
Below are some more pics from the Arizona Memorial. This one is of the number 3 gun turret.
This is the flag flying over the Arizona.
We visited the USS Missouri. This ship is a behemoth. Beave and I toured it. What is unique about this photo is it represents the beginning and ending of America’s involvement in WW2. In the distance, you can see the Arizona memorial which represents the bombing of Pearl Harbor and the start of WW2. On the right is the USS Missouri Battleship where Japan signed the surrender document ending WW2.
Another place we visited was the Pacific Aviation Museum at Pearl Harbor. This is the trainer aircraft that President George H. W. Bush flew while he was in flight training just prior to the start of WW II.
Finally, at the Arizona National Park area, these birds were very friendly.
These are wonderful shots.
