Canon G7 X Mk Ii – 1/30, f/3.5, ISO 125, Eval Meter
I focused on taking a number of pictures before noon today. The end result is I really struggled to pic a Photo of the Day. In fact, any one of these could be a Photo of the Day. I picked the Ukuleles for sale because it just seems unusual for us back on the mainland to see these for sale in a convenience store. In Hawaii, it seems like this musical instrument is ubiquitous wherever you look. Seeing them for sale next to the liquor aisle just seems strange and surreal. One thing about the pic. I used a slow shutter speed to compensate for not using flash and the little G7’s Image Stabilization performed great.
As for the pic below, I call this ‘Bananas in an Urban Jungle’. This was another unusual pic. This one almost made the Photo of the Day. At one point it was number 1.
We took a quick walk along Waikiki Beach this morning and lots of people were playing beach volleyball. I stopped to try and capture some of the action and really like the energy this pic represents.
In all honesty, this was the first choice by several in our party to be the Photo of the Day. When I took it, I also felt that this is the one. However, I feel I can try to do better. This was somewhat of an impulse pic. I turned on the neutral density filter on the camera, set the shutter speed for 1/2 second, put the timer on 2 seconds, and snapped several pics this way. I’m posting this here but plan to post another pic while still in Hawaii. The concern I had has to do with the limitations of the ND filter. I believe it only provides about 1.5 stops of closing the aperture. I took the pic in full sunlight, so I’d like to take a pic in shade where I can control the shutter speed a bit longer.
This was just a fun pic. The ABC stores are everywhere in Hawaii. They are convenience stores, and like I said, they are everywhere. Some people say it means ‘All Blocks Covered’. Apparently there are 34 stores in a 1.5 mile radius of Waikiki. There are at least 5 stores at, or near, the Hilton property.
That waterfall picture is so gorgeous!! All so good!
