Canon 5D Mk IV – EF 70 – 200mm f/2.8L II – 2X Extender – 1/250, f/5.6, ISO 400, Eval Meter
Today’s PotD was intentional. I wanted to go outside and get some bird/animal pics around the new birdbath and the bird feeders. I did not want to shoot through a glass window. To prepare, I had to put the camera and lenses in large, sealed plastic bags and set them outside to acclimate. Since it’s so hot out, bringing the equipment directly outside causes fast condensation buildup. The plastic bags help prevent the condensation.
After a bit, I went on the front porch and sat. I had the camera attached to the monopod so that helped with the weight of the lens. I took quite a few pics of birds and squirrels. Toward the end, this yellow finch (I think) showed up. I guess I timed this shot just right as he approached the feeder with the other birds looking on. I would have preferred a faster shutter speed but I didn’t want to compromise using a higher ISO. In the end, I think the shutter speed was just right as it adds to the feeling of flight.
This is so cool! And it looks like 4 different types of birds!
