Canon 5D Mk IV – EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro – 1/1250, f/2.8, ISO 100, Eval Meter
This PotD was infuriatingly difficult to take. The subject of the shot was brought to my attention by Roxie (I’m so proud of her – she told me it was going to be a macro shot). The spider set up a web between two rocking chairs. It was midday and I had just finished mowing the lawn but we still had to seal the patio. I got the 5D with the macro lens and the twin lite flash. Well it was pretty windy and the web was bobbing beyond belief. I couldn’t set a high enough shutter speed with the flash on to focus and stop action at the same time. There were many other difficulties that I won’t bore anyone with. I ended up taking the flash off and got on the ground looking up to try and get a shot. That helped somewhat. But what really helped was going to high speed continuous shutter.
In my opinion, this is an ok shot – not great by any means. I do like the contrast between the web lines and the spider and the sky.
So cool!
