GoPro Hero 10 Black – 1/4000, f/2.5, ISO 100, Average Meter
Well tomorrow, this great tree won’t be here. This is a white oak, and it stands about 100 ft tall. It has been slowly dying over the last several years, and this summer, it had no leaves. It’s also been dropping some pretty big limbs which makes it a safety hazard. Every time I mow under it, I’m praying…
Anyway, we have someone coming tomorrow to take it down. I took two photos like the PotD but with different cameras. I wanted the pic to be bold with a wide angle. I took one pic with the GoPro set to SuperPhoto mode, and another pic with the 5D and a 16-35 mm lens set to a focal length of 16mm. I liked how the GoPro turned out – although I honestly don’t understand their exposure algorithm. Why they would have the aperture wide open and set the shutter speed to 1/4000 on a bright sunny day shooting this scene is beyond me. I would have opted for an aperture of around f/10 and dropped the shutter speed. Anyway, here’s the PotD.
The secondary photo below was taken with the 5D and is actually an HDR image where I merged 3 pics of different exposures in Lightroom. Nothing fancy, it just commemorates the tree. It has somewhat of a fisheye look to it because of the focal length of 16mm. It had rained between the PotD and this pic and that’s why the sky is cloudy.
Bye, bye big guy!
