5D Mk IV – EF 70-200mm f/2.8L II – 1/125, f/4, ISO 100 – shot through window
We woke up this morning and it was still snowing – when it was done, it had snowed for about 35 hours! I’m guessing we had 14 to 15 inches. So I saw this Bluejay sitting on the branch in the snow storm. I took another pic of him/her eating (see below).
I also set up the GoPro to do a time lapse video of Winter Storm Landon. I set it to take a shot every 30 seconds. I started the process at 6:15am – if I’d gotten up a tad bit earlier, I’d have started it before the snow started falling. Notice very early in the video, the direction of the camera changes. I was worried the location I had chosen would be disrupted by rain and snow on the window, and I was right. I moved it to a backup location. It’s interesting that with all the snow, the winds kept the center of the yard pretty clean. The birds seemed to like that. The drifts that were created were pretty big though. The camera was basically shooting from 6:15am Wednesday morning to 5:30pm Thursday afternoon. We had a lull in the snow between about 9pm Wed til early Thursday morning so not much to see. The other thing to notice is that the GoPro is not the best to capture night video. In any case, I shot close to 35 hours that I condensed down to 1 minute and 4 seconds!
Some things I learned: 1) Pick location carefully. 2) I can plug the power directly into the camera and not obsess over battery life. 3) The Go Pro has a night mode but I didn’t use it for Thursday night. I could have and maybe with the porch and garage outside lights on – it would have been more visible. 4) I might need a better video editing app – maybe Power Director.
The rest of the pics below are more storm pics. We have drifts 3 to 4 feet and the temp is going to crash. They say Saturday it will be in the negative digits.
Love the bluebird! All the pics are great!
Thanks!
