5D Mk IV – EF 50mm f/1.2L – Einstein 640W Strobes – 1/125, f/8, ISO 50

Today I chose to showcase a vintage ukulele and have more practice with creative lighting while using the new 50mm prime lens.

This musical instrument was my father’s and is a Kamaka Ukulele. Kamaka is a Hawaiian brand and my father was in the Navy at Pearl Harbor in the 1950’s – so that makes this ukulele at least 65 years old. For the shoot I did not use a light in the front. I had a light on top going down. I wanted to highlight the top of the ukulele while having some light spill over the front and illuminate it that way. I also added a light behind the ukulele pointing towards it’s back to add additional pop.

I think the photo looks like it was taken in a museum.

Edit: Further research has determined this is a Kamaka Historic Soprano (mid 50’s) model. Everything matches. Here’s the link and a screenshot. http://kamakahawaii.com/about/historic-kamaka-ukes.html
