5D Mk IV – EF 50mm f/1.2L – Einstein 640W Strob – 1/125, f/16, ISO 100

Today was another product type shot but with a bit of history; just not as far back as yesterday’s ukulele. This little electronic football game got a ton of use while I was an undergraduate at Purdue (78-82). Myself, Roxie, Guba, and many other’s played this game for hours and hours! It’s amazing when you think how advanced technology has become. Now we have Madden NFL 2022 (or whatever versions playing on 4K consoles and 82 inch TV’s).

The photo shoot was similar to yesterday’s. I used the new 50mm prime with a single overhead Einstein 640W strobe. This photo was a focus stack of 9 images. Using an aperture of f/16 – the photos themselves were generally ok the further you got from the focal point. However, I wanted all of it in focus – hence, the stack. I did the merging in Photoshop. I tried first in Lightroom, but I did not like the results. Photoshop, in my opinion, is much better at stacking and merging.

I found the following on www.handheldmuseum.com: A little game history: This was released in June of 1977 by Mattel and sold through Sears. After less than 100,000 were made, Sears (using a computer model based on initial sales figures) determined that the game would not be a big seller, and most of the production for Football was stopped. Within 6 months, it became obvious to Sears that their prediction was wrong, and production was started up again and reached previously unknown levels! (Reaching as many as 500,000 units a week by mid-February, 1978).

The other photo was a very quick pic taken to celebrate the first grill of the year on the RecTeq Bullseye. Tonight it was ribeye steak and baked potatoes.
