Week 50 – Dec 8 to Dec 14

G7X Mk II – 1/125, f/2.8, ISO 800, Eval Meter Well it’s Christmas time again. I took this photo of Christmas tree lights at my granddaughters Holiday Dance Recital. I actually had the camera in shutter priority mode. This pic came out blurry but after looking at it, and adjusting the colors, I felt it helped to emphasize the specialness of this time of year.

DJI Mavic Pro – 1/320, f/2.2, ISO 100, CWA On December 7, we went to see our longtime friends from our early Air Force days. While there, I took my trusty, 7 year old Mavic Pro drone up for a spin. This is a photo taken at about 100 ft directly over their house. Now this photo was heavily edited in Lightroom. Using generative AI, I removed some roads, houses, and docks. It’s a very pretty area with those in […]

5D Mk IV – EF 24-70 f/2.8L – Various Shutter Speeds, f/16, ISO 100, CWA This panorama was actually taken in October. It’s our backyard. What’s unique about it is that it is an HDR pano consisting of 45 separate photos. I used my Acratech Panoramic tripod head with the nodal rail. The focal length of the lens was set to 70mm and I had identified the nodal point previously, and then set it accordingly. The pic is actually 5 […]

Canon G7X Mk II – 1/640, f/4.0, ISO 125, Eval Meter On October 26, My lifelong friend, Anthony Bevis, and I went diving at France Park. He is still a relatively new diver; this was his 14th dive. It was also his first cold water dive – the water temperature was 59 degrees. He did great. We did two dives so now he has 15 dives under his belt and got some great experience diving in a 7mm wetsuit. I […]

5D Mk IV – EF70-200mm F/2.8L – 1/250, f/2.8, ISO 400, Eval Meter We lost our dear Mason on November 1. The old boy had a great spirit but his body just gave out. This photo was taken on May 4, 2022 in our backyard. He is up there now running with Lucky and Bella.

Mini 2 – 1/100, f/2.8, ISO 100, CWA Meter Here’s another drone pic. I took this 2 image panorama on Oct 24 at 8:20 am. There was a bit of ground fog present so I got the Mini 2 up in the air to see how things looked. While the fog was a little harder to see at 200+ ft, it did provide a unique look to the photo which was close to sunrise. Does anybody look at this other […]

“Popcorn Harvest” DJI Mavic Pro – 1/25, f/2.2, ISO 421, CWA Well it’s that time of year, and this is a drone shot of harvest time. For those that have never seen a popcorn field, here is one for you. The efficiency of the modern combines amazes me. When I, and my beautiful wife, were young, we would have to go ‘glean’ corn in the fields to help offset costs to feed our animals. That would be very hard, almost […]

5D Mk IV – EF 70-200 F/4L – Speedlite 580 EX II – 1/4000, f/6.3, ISO 2000, Eval Meter This is a hummingbird pic I promised to show not too long ago. When we were in Roatan in April, I brought my 5D Mk IV along with a tripod, flash, and remote. Instead of bringing my EF 70-200mm f/2.8L II lens, because it weighs a ton, I opted for the much lighter f/4L version. This lens while old, and slower […]

DJI Mini 3 – 1/400, f/1.7, ISO 100 As I did with Project 365, There were a few instances where I had a guest photographer. Well, this is Project 52’s guest photograph from none other than Dan Guba. We were up in South Haven from August 26 to the 29th but this pic was taken after that. It is a photo Guba took of his dinghy that he recently bought. we went for a few rides on it – a […]

5D Mk IV – EF 16-35mm F/2.8L II – Various Shutter, f/8, ISO 100, Eval Meter OK, I’m being kind of lazy this week and am pulling a picture from earlier this year (February 28 to be exact). Actually, this was a pretty hard shot to take. It is a High Dynamic Range Panorama of the Missile Gallery at the National Museum of the USAF in Dayton, Ohio. This particular photo is a merge of 18 separate pictures. I took […]

5D Mk IV – EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II – Various Shutter Speeds, F/5.0, ISO 100 This is my new Endurance Road Bike, a Trek Domane SL 5 Gen 4. “She’s a beaut, Clark”! I’ve had my older Domane 4.7 for 10 years and I took it into the shop in the spring because the crank was making a lot of noise. Come to find out that there was a recall on the crank that went back 12 years. I waited […]

Canon G7X Mk II 1/500, f/6.3, ISO 2000 Well we are back at it after a year! The Project 52 came to a sudden stop last year after I injured my knee requiring surgery so I was focused on rehab for a few months. It seemed appropriate that I continue, so here I am. This first week back is a short week since I want to keep the days consistent, as well as ending the week on a Saturday. This […]

DJI Mini 2 – 1/500, f/2.8, ISO 100, Eval Meter This PotW is from June 9, 2023. Since we are back into scuba, I thought I’d show a panorama of 13 images stitched together. This is France Park where we learned to Scuba dive, and where we also taught many a student.

5D Mk IV – EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L – 1/60, f/4.5, ISO 1600, Eval Meter This PotW goes back to February where I made a short trip to the National Museum of the USAF in Dayton, Ohio. Most of the time was spent in the WW2 gallery, but while I was up in the cafeteria area, I managed to capture 9 shots of the Cold War gallery. I stitched them together in a panorama and this PotW is the result. […]

5D Mk IV – EF 100mm F/2.8 – 25 sec, f/5.6, ISO 100, Eval Meter With the Congressional hearing this week on UFO’s, I thought I’d get out a picture I took almost 30 years ago (appx 1994) using a film camera. This was taken from a hotel room looking out over some mountains in Nevada I estimate were 6 to 8 miles away. I had a zoom lens and was just scanning the countryside when I happened upon 3 […]

GoPro Hero 10 Black – 1/230, f/2.5, ISO 860, CWA Meter We made a short trip to Gilboa Quarry this week. Kind of a last minute thing. We hadn’t been here in 5 years so it was a nice reunion with the quarry. We did dry suit dives; the water is 80 degrees at the surface but in the 50’s beyond 30 feet. This PotW is one of the stars of the quarry. Roxie and I have made several trips […]

5D Mk IV – EF 100mm F/2.8 – 1/200, f/4, ISO 400, Eval Meter I purchased an Assault Gun this week. The PotW is my first confirmed kill with the Assault Gun! Now before all the anti-gun nuts go crazy (not that I give a crap), it’s actually a ‘Bug-A-Salt’ device to kill bugs, and flies specifically, using a pinch of salt as the ammunition. So far in the two days I’ve had it, I have 9 confirmed kills!

Shakedown G7X Mk II – 1/125, f/4.5, ISO 125, Eval Meter This POTW is appropriately titled ‘Shakedown’. After a few weeks of working on our RV (water pump, toilet flush module, propane regulator and hoses, tires, etc, etc,) we felt we needed to get it out for a shakedown before we use it for any weekend diving trips. This is actually another panorama of 4 pics taken in portrait mode. The pics themselves are not wow-worthy; in fact, the exposure […]

5D Mk IV – EF 100mm f/2.8 – (3) 640W Strobes – 1/100, f/5, ISO 100, Eval Meter Well I found out this week that this crappy company had another ‘Restructuring’. What horrible management – they have no idea what they are doing. I recently had some target practice with a good friend of mine. Thought this would make a good PotW.

GoPro Hero 10 Black – 1/1500, f/2.5, ISO 100, CWA Meter Here awe have another panorama. This one is a bit different – it’s a stitch of 3 GoPro photos that were taken in the super photo format. This was last week when we were camping at Prophetstown with our granddaughter. The image is striking due to the solitary blue of the climb through tunnels.

DJI Mini 2 – 1/320, f/2.8, ISO 100, CWA Meter We had our granddaughter with us for the entire week so we did a lot of things with her. Yesterday we went to France Park and had an opportunity to see the waterfall. This PotW is another panorama photo merge of 9 pictures. The pics were taken about 15 ft in the air. As an aside, I also took the drone up over our local Scuba Diving spot. As you […]

5D Mk IV – EF 24-70 F/2.8L – 1/100, f/13, ISO 100, Eval Meter You’ve seen this windmill before from Week 15. This is from a different angle, and it’s in black and white. My granddaughter and I went to Prophetstown State Park so she could play in the playground. While there, we decided to drop by The Farm. She saw chickens, turkeys, ducks, pigs, cows, and horses. I saw The Windmill. This is actually a panorama of 6 pictures, […]

G7 X Mk II – 1/80, f/10, ISO 320, Eval Meter Roxie and I took a hiatus from Scuba but we are back!. However, this PotW is from our last trip to Cocoview in December 2017. I happen to really like this pic and don’t know how I missed it previously. It was […]

Canon Digital Rebel – EF 18-55mm – 1/200, f/10, ISO 400, Eval Meter This weeks PotW goes way, way back in the archives; 17 years to be exact! I was looking at old vacation photos and came across a series of pics from when Roxie and I went to the Las Vegas area Red Rock Canyon in 2006. I must have had a propensity for panoramic photography even back then when it was much more difficult to stitch photos together. […]

‘Life’ 5D Mk IV – EF 70-200mm F/2.8L – 2X Extender – 1/80, f/5.6, ISO 200, Eval Meter The PotW this time came very late in the week. I was actually focusing on something much different for the PotW, but while mowing today, I came across this gem. What we have here is a robin nest inside an evergreen tree. You see, this tree was about 6 inches tall, living in a pot, two years ago. Roxie and I planted […]

Canon G7X Mk II – 1/80, f/2.2, ISO 200, Eval Meter I went to Guba’s on Thursday to spend the weekend. Today we visited the 1st Division Museum at Cantigny Park. This is a military museum devoted solely to the Army’s 1st Division history from WWI through modern times. They have an awesome tank park outside with many tanks from WW1 to today on display. But inside was the bread and butter – lots of history. So I came upon […]

5D Mk IV – EF70-200mm F/2.8L – 1/250, f/3.5, ISO 800, Spot Meter About a month or so ago, a Robin started making its presence known at our house. He (or she) started parking itself on our Magnolia tree right outside our bathroom, and it would attempt to fly into the glass window. Lately, it is sitting right outside the window staring in. Kind of weird. The thing is, it is pretty skittish and any attempt I made to get […]

DJI Mavic Pro – 1/320, f/2.2, ISO 100, CWA Meter Well it’s planting season. I thought this would make a good PotW because it is a drone photo, AND, I passed my FAA part 107 exam this week and got my certification! (My original cert expired in the middle of the Covid farce). The drone was my old workhorse (and very first drone) The Mavic Pro. This pic was taken very close to our backyard, and, in full transparency, there […]
