Canon Digital Rebel – EF 18-55mm – 1/200, f/10, ISO 400, Eval Meter
This weeks PotW goes way, way back in the archives; 17 years to be exact! I was looking at old vacation photos and came across a series of pics from when Roxie and I went to the Las Vegas area Red Rock Canyon in 2006. I must have had a propensity for panoramic photography even back then when it was much more difficult to stitch photos together. In any case, this is a series of 7 photos which finally got merged into a panorama 17 years later. This new photo shows some of the grandeur of Red Rock.
To get a sense of the scale, if you look close just to the right side of center, you can see 4 hikers walking through the desert! Admittedly, it is hard to see because this is a low-res image. However, the stitched image is over 150Mb and it is hard to see in that also unless you zoom in. Therefore, I added the pic below zoomed in so you can actually see what I am referring to.
The problem with these earlier photos is that they were taken in landscape mode which can lead to them being pretty narrow once they are stitched and cropped. The better option now is to take them in portrait mode. Alternatively, I could use my Ronin Gimbal which has a nice feature where you can set it to take a pattern of pictures which would provide a very nice panorama.
