The Day After

5D Mk IV – EF 16-35mm f/2.8L – 1/100, f/3.2 ISO 50, Eval Metering

I walked out back with my camera and the very first thing that caught my eye was the empty swing and yard. Yesterday, this area was so full of life, vigor, and fun with the little kids swinging in the swing and laughing their hearts out. In the yard, people were practicing gymnastics and doing cart-wheels. Someone was even hitting gold balls! Today it all sits in stark contrast to yesterday – cloudy, spitting rain occasionally, and very quiet – oh so very very quiet……..

Ok, so much for the nostalgia. The photo wasn’t complicated at all. Probably the biggest concern was how much background did I want to include. I was working with the 16-35mm lens, so I could go pretty wide. I wanted to capture the essence of the empty swing, but not overwhelm the picture with just the swing. The yard was just as much a part of the fun, if not more so. I think I captured a pretty good balance between the two.
