5D Mk IV – EF70-200mm f/2.8L II – EF580EX II Speedlight – 1/60, f/8, ISO 200
Well we are in the midst of another winter storm. It looks like we might be in the 8+ inch band; not as bad as the last storm, but still. I figured I’d be doing another weather related photo, but I had an opportunity to capture the elusive Mia. She was sleeping on the couch so I threw on the trusty EF70-200mm lens. It’s big and heavy, but man-oh-man, it takes great portraits.
It’s not really noticeable in the photos, but there was light coming in from nearby windows. I put on the Speedlight and crept up until I was about 5 feet away. I exposed for the ambient light, and used the flash as fill. This would prevent from either blowing the photo out with the ambient light, or having Mia be more silhouetted. She’s got that ‘Please leave me alone’ look!

Mason was being a good boy and not barking or scaring Mia so I got a shot of him as a runnerup photo.

Love the animal pics! Good to have pics of the elusive Mia and always Mason.
