Canon G7 X Mk II – 1/2000, f/4.5, ISO 125

I’ve taken a number of macro shots already, always with the 5D Mk IV, but this one is a little different. I went into town today and it was raining steadily. I’ve been taking my little Canon G7 X since it’s compact and is a great little travel camera. In looking at the windshield, I thought the raindrops on the glass might make for an interesting macro shot. When I was stopped in a parking lot is when I got the shot. I was sitting inside behind the wheel.

I had the camera set to manual and macro mode. It was raining but the sky was still bright so I had to be careful with the settings so it wasn’t overblown. I wanted to make sure any background appeared blurry so I set the aperture to f/4.5; given the close distance to the glass, this was acceptable. I set the ISO to the lowest setting of 125. On the G7 X, it’s nice having the live-view and this allowed me to dial in the shutter speed to 1/2000.

I’m impressed with the macro capabilities of this camera. It won’t replace the 5D, but will work in a pinch.
